I was curious if there was a different transcode software that we could use instead of the one supplied by Iomega? I don't have any clue as to what the Pro model looks for when it tries to connect to the transcoding software. There are so many multimedia streamers out there that are much better, so if anyone knows, help.
And, is it possible to modify the code to use a small web browser? I'm not mainly interested in connecting to the internet, but I have created a simple html page that displays movies so that when you click on them it immediately opens the location on the disk drive. Maybe we would find a way to bypass the regular browser and use something different?
- The Iomega transcoding software appears to monitor network shares that you've set up and also watches certain ports for commands. From the ScreenPlay's point of view, it appears that you are just browsing to one of the network folders and selecting a movie to play. What I'm not sure of is if the transcoding software automatically converts any MKV that is requested (regardless of whether the request is from the ScreenPlay or another machine) or if it has to receive a command through one of the ports requesting it to begin transcoding. I suspect it's the latter of the two, since that would have the least amount of impact on everything else. Is there a particular other streaming package you were considering?
- There is no known way to replace the built in media browser at this time (other than replacing the skin). The screenplay can have the built in WWW server activated and can host HTML pages to be retrieved by a computer's browser, but it will not use it for its own browsing at this time. --JCoug 14:26, September 14, 2009 (UTC)
